Film Review: Nosferatu
Robert Eggers previously directed The Northman. A film I liked due to it’s grittiness and sharp cinematography. His latest film is a retelling of the silent film Nosferatu from the 1920s.
The original Nosferatu, interestingly, was a rip off of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. So much so that the film makers were sued for being too close to Dracula, and all copies of Nosferatu were supposed to be destroyed.
Eggers version follows the orignal story pretty closely. But his film making skill and the cinematography elevate this film into something that is solidly both artistic and entertaining, a rarity.
In truth, while I recommend this film, I found it a little unsettling to watch. More so than most horror, which rarely affects me emotionally in the way many are.
